BOYS NIGHT OUT
with Connor Lovat-Fraser
Stephanie: State your name and what you do in the band.
Connor: My name is Connor and I sing for BoysNightOut.
Stephanie: Okay, since we've seen you... this is probably our 4th time
within the past 4 months...
we've noticed that each time we see you, the crowd that comes seems to grow
larger and larger and
the fanbase in this area alone is growing. When we first saw you, not as many
people knew about you,
but now even around school people are all "boysnightout!" and we're
like "fuck off"
*we all laugh*
I don't know... just a jealousy factor... But yeah, what do you think about
that... the fact that even just this area
is growing so it must be growing in other places too...
Connor: I think we've been touring our asses off since May so I think
every time you play somewhere, a couple more
kids might come out or maybe hopefully a couple may have heard of you that
never have before. So, I think it's awesome. It's exciting.
Stephanie: Do you think you'll maybe be bigger... and playing the larger
stage (Palladium // Worcester, MA) next time around?
Shannon: Well, they did play it... at Skatefest.
Stephanie: No, no. I mean like, headlining. On their own.
Connor: Oh no. I don't know about that. I wouldn't look forward to
that anytime soon.
Stephanie: What's changed since the release of 'Make Yourself Sick'?
Connor: Well, I'm a lot sicker... and that's not a joke or is supposed
to be funny. I've been terribly ill for months and months.
It's like a bad omen. I should have named it... like... Make Yourself.. Completely
impervious to ailments.
Stephanie: Do you think Rob and Dave ever feel like going back to being
in a ska band doing Operation Ivy covers?
Connor: I think so. I think they always will.
Stephanie: Are you nervous that they might leave you to form another
ska band?
Shannon: Ruins 2!
Connor: Oh, they already have Ruins 2.... no, they don't. I'm lying.
Stephanie: That would have been great.
Connor: Nah, we love each other too much. We're in love. We touch...
a lot.
Stephanie: What are your top favorite releases for 2003?
Connor: I like the new Jealous Sound record, that was a good fucking record.
That Brand New record is really good. The Seperation Suicide 'This Conversation'
is a GREAT record. Umm... what else came out this year?
Shannon: Fear Before The March Of Flames!
Connor: I've never heard them.
Stephanie: They're good. You should check them out.
Connor: I don't get to hear much music because we listen to the same
stuff in the van over and over and over.... That Bled record is amazing as
well. And
so is that Saosin EP.
Stephanie: Ah I looove them.
Connor: It's great. I miss those guys. I'll tell you what the best
release of next year is going to be though.
Stephanie: What?
Connor: It's gonna be The Fullblast. They're from our area. And they're
fucking amazing. And their new record comes out in like February. It's going
to
blow everybody's mind.
Stephanie: I'll have to try and get it.
Connor: Please do.
Stephanie: What are your New Years resolutions for the band?
Connor: To keep touring... and be healthy. But we finally have a break.
We have a month off so I'm going to use that to be healthy and see my girlfriend.
I actually get to hang out with the people I love for the first time in months.
Stephanie: Are you threatening us?
Connor: Still am. Always am.
Stephanie: Did you ever think of owning a bagel/hardware shop?
Connor: I did. But it was when we were on tour with Coheed & Cambria.
I wanted myself and Claudio to open up a bagel shop called (*tape is muffled
due to sound... we'll figure
out what it says eventually*) and I just thought it would be awesome.
Stephanie: And you could sell hardware too, at the same time.
Connor: I don't see why not.
Stephanie: What are your favorite songs to play live?
Connor: I like playing The First Time It Shouldn't Taste Like Blood, Sketch
Artist Composite... and I really like playing... I can't even think of the
name.
Umm, A Torrid Love Affair is one...
Stephanie: From what you've seen, do you think the crowds react better
to new songs or old songs?
Connor: I think it's about even now. Before they were like "No, the
new stuff sucks!" but now...
Stephanie: They're used to it...
Connor: Yeah.
Stephanie: What's your favorite thing about touring and your least favorite
thing?
Connor: My favorite thing about touring is partying and meeting people.
And my least favorite is missing home.
Stephanie: Do you ever feel nervous that Jeff might leave you to star
in the Santa Clause 3?
Connor: No, I don't think he'd do it.
Stephanie: You don't think he'd do it? Not even if they offered him
riches and jewels?
Connor: They offered him 3 million to do 2... to be in Santa Clause
2. But he said no because we were on tour. It was like 2.8 or 3 million or
something.
Stephanie: What would he play? An elf again? Isn't he a little tall
to be an elf?
Connor: Magical things they can do with cameras these days.
Stephanie: Can you picture if they turned him into a midget?
Connor: I can. I always picture that.
Stephanie: Have you had any troubles with the border lately?
Connor: None. None at all. They don't fuck with our shit anymore.
Stephanie: Who are your musical influences?
Connor: The Smiths, Lifetime, Jawbreaker, annnd... The Cure. I love them.
Stephanie: Do you have any closing statements?
Connor: ...let's get wasted.
Stephanie: Sounds verry nice.
Connor: I'm a bad person.
Stephanie: It's okay, we still love you.
