THE HALO FRIENDLIES
with Natalie & Judita
Steph: State your name and what you do in the band.
Judita: I am Judita. I play guitar and sing.
Natalie: Natalie. I play lead guitar
and I sing.
Steph: How did you come up with the name The Halo Friendlies?
Judita: It was a Damian Jurado song called Halo Friendly. He was staying
at our house when he was recording his first record a few years ago. We were
looking for a band name and he's like 'Why don't you call yourselves the Halo
Friendlies?' We just thought that was cute and girly and we were younger and
girly then.
Steph: How young?
Natalie: In our teens.
Steph: How old?
Judita: I was in college.
Natalie: 16
Jess: If you were a piñata, what what shape would you be and what
would you be filled with?
Natalie: Hmm
I'd be a pony! And I'd be filled with like
money
sign rings and uh
boston baked beans and Snickers
and fortune
cookies.
Judita: I guess I'd be a giraffe and I'd have lots of Skittles and
cake and pie.
*We laugh*
Natalie: That's a messy piñata!
Steph: What would you do if you were walking down the street and you came
across an explosive camel reading a book about your mother?
Natalie: Duuuude! I'd take a shotgun and blow its head off for reading
a book about my mother.
Steph: But it's explosive!
Natalie: Yeah! Exactly! He's explosive so if you shoot him in the head
BOOM! So it's a lot quicker. Sniper attack.
Judita: Sniper attack on the camel.
Natalie: And give him a wedgie.
Steph: What about the book?
Natalie: Burn the book. Actually
I'd either burn the book
or I'd steal it.
Judita: Read it and then
Steph: What if it was a well written book? Would you show your mom?
Natalie: Nah
because
I wouldn't wanna give her a big head.
Steph: What would you do if you were walking down the street and you came
across a radioactive llama dancing a tango with your mother?
Judita: I'd tell her to get away because she could get cancer from the
radioactivity.
Natalie: I'd wear one of those E.T. suits
cause it's radioactive.
And uh
what was he doing again?
Steph: Dancing a tango with your Mom.
Natalie: My mom is taking tango lessons right now. I would get a radioactive
suit
then try to find another one
put it over my mom
Judita: And let her have fun!
Natalie: Hook her up with some kick-ass shoes
and just say "Girl
Mom
keep on dancing the tango cause I got you a radioactive suit."
Jess: Explosive Camels land the same day you inherit 5 million dollars
and say they're going to blow up the earth. How old are you?
Natalie: 21
Judita: 25
Steph: If I were to take both of your shoes, throw them across a vacant
lot, run over and pick them up, look inside at the tags
what size would
the tags say?
Natalie: 2
Judita: Yeah. We like to lie a little. I'm a 5 ½.
*They laugh evilly*
Steph: Alright, you're walking down the street and Martha Stewart comes
up to you and says "What's the dilly, yo?" What do you do?
Natalie: The dillio, biatch, is the fact that you are stealing
Judita: Swindling
Natalie: Swindling the stock market money! I'd be like
What's
the dillio NOW biatch?!
Jess: What inspired you guys to wanna be musicians?
Judita: You guys.
Natalie: What inspired us is to do something different
be in
an all-girl band. And hopefully
like when we started we're like you
know
hopefully in the future we'll get girls to be inspired as well.
So, that's really what inspired us
to just kinda do it and then get
other women to do it as well.
Steph: What would you say are your favorite bands as of this moment?
Natalie: Good Charlotte, The Used, The Beards, The Muffs, Dance Hall
Steph: What are your thoughts on Avril Lavigne?
Natalie: Funny that you ask, because 2 nights ago when we were in New
York, I hung out with the drummer.
Jess: Oooh
he's cute.
Natalie: He IS cute. His name's Matt. But get this, I didn't know,
right? We're all hanging out
We got to the hotel, we're hanging out
with Benji and Joel, we all had our own hotels or whatever
and a group
of guys
one is uh the bass player from Sum 41, then the drummer from
Avril Lavigne. Just a bunch of people, right? And I didn't even recognize
anybody
So we all get in a group and we're ready to go out to the diner,
so while we're walking to the diner, I'm like "So, what do you do? Who
are you?" and he's like "Oh, my name's Matt. I play for Avril Lavigne."
And I'm like *starts laughing insanely* Exactly like that. I thought he was
joking around. He was like "No
seriously
I play drums for
Avril Lavigne
" and I'm like "Uh
That's
rad! ...Cool!"
I didn't know what to say because I felt so bad. Benji was there. He was telling
everyone.
Judita: Yeah, I heard the story.
Natalie: Yeah. He ended up being so cool. He had good things to say
about Avril. And
I give her props for just kinda being out there before
us.
Steph: It kinda bugs me because half the people here tonite are wearing
like
ties and armwarmers
and are dressed like Avril
Natalie: Yeah. It's because she's out there and everyone just sees
out in the world
Steph: Yeah, It's kinda like with Benji and his little Sid Vicious
lock and chain.
Jess: What's your advice for people in high school? And what's your advice
for people in high school who want to be musicians?
Natalie: Don't sleep to get to the top.
Judita: Just be true to yourself and just follow your own heart. Don't
worry about what anyone else thinks. If you wanna make good music, do what
you like. Don't worry about what other people think. Just follow your heart.
Natalie: And befriend other musicians. That's what I did in high school.
I hung out with guys that were musicians and that's how I ended up getting
into music.
Jess: When you were in high school, what did you get in trouble for the
most?
Natalie: I ditched a lot. I ditched a lot
and I'd get to class really
late.
I don't know. Somehow I always got away with it cause I would just like
make friends with all the teachers. But that was like
the only thing.
Not like fighting or anything.
Judita: I was bad but I never got caught. And I kept my grades up.
So they never suspected me.
Steph: What was probably the most embarrassing thing that's happened to
you while on tour?
Natalie: Tonight. My garter belt fell down. I don't know if you guys saw
that
but it fell down! It looked like some lacey underwear at my crotch
So I'm like, playing out to the crowd and I look, and I see kids looking down
around my crotch area
and I was all like "What's up? Yeah. What's
up?" And I looked down and I was like Hoooooly
Do you remember
when I left stage?
Steph: Yeah.
Natalie: That was when I fixed my garter belt. It fell down. That's
the only thing that's happened so far
well, it wasn't that embarrassing
like, I didn't care
I just wanted to fix it because I jump around a
lot onstage and I don't fix it
it's gonna be all the way down to my
freaking ankles.
Jess: You guys had quite a moshpit going.
Natalie: I know!
Steph: Do you like the crowd at the Good Charlotte shows?
Natalie: They're honestly like
the best fans. They're sincere and
just awesome.
Jess: Yeah, but are those the real fans or the teenyboppers?
Judita: I think that's what our fans are gonna be
Steph: That's probably the only bad thing about playing with Good Charlotte
now that they're a TRL band. They have all the teenybopper fans that are like
'Oh my gawd! Benji & Joel are so0o0o0o hott!'
Steph: Okay, thank you for doing the interview and do you have any last
comments?
Natalie: O'Doyle rules.
Steph: Great movie! Billy Madison!
