OH, HUSH!

If there were an Oh, Hush! movie, what stars would you want to play the lead roles? Who do you feel would best represent the members of the band?
That's a tough one!! Man.... I haven't watched enough movies recently. Can Anne Hathaway play me please???? She was awesome in Devil Wears Prada!!

So what is a typical day for Oh, Hush! like?
Well I know that I spend hours and hours and hours every single day answering messages, answering comments, writing bulletins and just doing the day to day communication with our fans. It's a lot of work but it's very rewarding and it's really awesome getting to know a lot of our fans! Our fans are far cooler than we are and it's been awesome getting to know them! Beyond myspace we spend a lot of time writing songs and recording them. We spend a lot of time packaging up merch packages for our fans. We spend a lot of time answering interview questions like these J And perhaps most importantly, we spend a LOT of time putting together various surprises for y'all!! In fact, we have several more to come before the end of 2008!!

If you were to meet any musician – who would you most want to meet? Is there anyone you've already met that was worth sharing a story about?
I could tell you my famous Jon Bon Jovi story but I'll save that one for another day. One time I hung out with the guitar player from Finger 11 for about 3 hours talking about why Axl Rose was so scared to put out their upcoming "Chinese Democracy" record... funny thing is he was hammered and I drank about 4 Red Bulls that night so it was a bad combination!!?! I had a really fun time hanging out and meeting Gwen Stefani!!! Everytime I "meet" Butch Walker it's always the highlite of my day :-)

When you finally start to tour – what items will be must haves for the road?
T-shirts, hoodies, and shoes...my IPOD, my favorite Book, and a toothbrush would be about it! Gotta have peanut butter and honey for sammiches!! Gotta have my Oh, Hush! YELLOW laptop. A change of underwear is always preferred but not always necessary! I don't need much, as long as my friends are there and there's gas in the car and a little money for food. :-)

Which cities would you absolutely love to play in?
YOUR City!! :-)

Orange juice: pulp or no pulp?
NO PULP!!! Yucky! In fact, when I was a lil guy, my dad used to always buy the OJ with pulp in it and i would make him pull out a strainer and strain all of the pulp out of the juice before I would drink it. I was a very high maintenance child apparently!

If you were a piñata, what shape would you be & what would you be filled with?
I think I'd want to be in the shape of an alpaca... and I'd definitely want to be filled with Snickers... cuz they really satisfy!!!

I don't know about you, but I have an obsession with 90's Nickeldeon & Disney movies/tv shows [like the Mighty Ducks (D2) and Are You Afraid of the Dark]. Do you have any older movie/tv guilty pleasures?
National Lampoons' Vacation movies are simply the funniest movies on the planet!!! I can quote the entire movie up and down! Geez... I even put a quote into one of our songs!!

You have a pretty dedicated fanbase so far – does it ever surprise you sometime how involved your fans are, especially for a currently non-touring band? I have to admit, that's quite impressive. What role do you think the internet has in this? Surely several years ago a band wouldn't be this successful with the same kind of approach…
You know, it doesn't really surprise us that our fans are as involved as they are because we pride ourselves in treating our fans as THE MOST IMPORTANT PART of what we do everyday. I really like to believe that our fans see us as their friends, more than just a band trying to push our music on them. I mean we help out with homework, relationship problems, and trade inside jokes all day long!! So, basically our fans are connected to us in a way that is really unique and definitely isn't something I've seen in the other projects that I've worked on.

Our fans have been a huge part of what we are and what we do every single day. Pretty much the only thing our fans haven't done with us and for us is write our songs (though I'm working on a way to change that if we can avoid some of the legal hurdles of this). Most recently we had artistic contests where our fans designed our logo, designed our t-shirts, and designed our album cover. And in all cases, we always let our fans vote on which designs they like best. After all, they're the ones who will be staring at these images all day and wearing them on their shirts, so we want them to be the ones making the decisions on these things!! Finally, instead of putting pictures of ourselves in our liner notes, we got about 1,000 of our fans to send us pictures of themselves "hushing" and we put those in our liner notes!! We most definitely rely on our fans to spread the word about Oh, Hush! to the world. We do interviews of our fans' high school newspapers. Our fans are the most important piece of Oh, Hush!

Regarding the role of the Internet, Oh, Hush! IS Myspace. I mean that's where everything we do is centered and focused. Myspace has probably been the most revolutionary tool for bands since…. I dunno…. probably digital recording and home studios. Myspace instantly gives you a website where you can interact with your fans, provide them with music and updates on what's going on, a huge community of people that you can reach out to and introduce your music to. I think it's safe to say that without myspace, there could be no Oh, Hush! Our project simply wouldn't and couldn't work without a page like myspace. So I would say that calling myspace "revolutionary" would not be an understatement.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.
I like GLUTEN FREE food!!

I noticed in the past you've done a few aim chats for your fans and also answer questions on a frequent basis. Do you think you'll continue to do this even after you've divulged your identities and essentially "become bigger"?
Haha!! Divulge our identities?? Not sure what you mean by that!! In all seriousness though, it's funny because while I know "when will you reveal yourselves" is the "million dollar question" as it relates to Oh, Hush!, we probably get 50 e-mails a week from people telling us "please DON'T ever reveal yourselves, I love what you're doing and I don't even want to know who you are." And then we get 2 e-mails a week saying "ok, im really tired of this, just tell us who you are!!?!?" So it really seems like people are connecting with the idea we're trying to create here. Again, the idea that it doesn't HAVE to be all about image and who's in the band and who's related to who or whatever. But rather, it can be ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC!!

To answer your question, if/when we reveal ourselves, I think it would initially explode the fanbase and you'd have tons and tons of people come over who weren't previously fans. But then we'd lose a bit of the specialness associated with what we've created with our existing fanbase. The very personal touch we're able to offer our fans. The interaction and communication. Some of that would probably not be possible anymore. All that to say, we're not quite ready to reveal ourselves just yet… but when the time is right, we'll do it and it will make sense and allow us to move into a new phase with this band!

If you were stuck on a deserted island with one cd/album for all of eternity, which album would you want to have with you?
Butch Walker, Letters. Done...simple.

Our site supports a lot of causes [ie: 11:11AM & Skate 4 Cancer]. Are there any causes that Oh, Hush support or want people made more aware of?
In fact, this is a VERY important part of what Oh, Hush! is about! I know I announced it a few times but we plan to talk about this a LOT more going forward!! This Oh, Hush! project started out as a side project and almost a joke and here we are a year later putting out our debut record and selling more copies of it than we ever expected! Oh, Hush! has been a huge huge blessing in all of our lives!! That said, we want to give back to our fans and the community and organizations that we believe in! We haved decided for every copy of THE YELLOW ALBUM that we sell, we will donate $1 to an organization/charity of our choosing. BUT... as always... the FANS will help us decide which organizations and charities we are supporting! We are constantly talking to our fans about what causes are near and dear to their hearts and we're currently looking into several causes to support! So this will be an ongoing thing and we'll constantly be looking to our fans for help here!!

That said, we are currently involved in a number of causes... Habitat For Humanity... TWLOHA... American Cancer Society... Blood Water Mission.... and we are always looking for more causes to support!!

If you were at JambaJuice [or any other eatery specializing in smoothies, etc] what would you order?
Strawberry Banana fo' sure!

Out of all the Batman movies, which actor was your favorite Batman?
I haven't seen the new one yet so I can't really say yet.....

How excited are you about the New Kids On The Block reunion?
That's totally awesome!! Honestly, that group changed the Pop Music industry. It wasn't that their music was necessarily groundbreaking, but I think they have got to be one of the first groups to literally create a brand! They had dolls, lunchboxes, and anything with room to put their faces on it. They remade the whole marketing concept of a "band". Hmmmm....now I'm starting to think that an Oh, Hush! lunchbox might be a cool idea!!!

Do you have any last words?
Thanks for taking an interest in us and we really appreciate your support more than you know!
