Riddlin Kids
with Mark, Dave & Clint

Steph: State your name and what you do in the band.
Mark:
I'm Mark and I play bass.
Clint: I'm Clint and I play guitar and sing.
Dave: I'm Dave, I baby-sit dogs.

Steph: Are you satisfied with the success of your record?
Clint:
We're stoked. Kids have gone out and bought our record. Yeah, if 10 kids went out and bought our record we'd be stoked. Ya know?

Steph: What's your favorite song to play live, and why?
Mark:
I think mine's 'Wasted Away' just cause it has so much energy. It's just a lot of fun for some reason.
Clint: I enjoy 'Follow Through' just cause it's a real energetic song and it's the song that Dustin sings. And I get to run around and act retarded.
Clint (to Dave): Do you have a favorite?
Dave: No. I don't like any of our songs. (laughs)

Steph: Do you have any embarrassing tour stories?
Dave:
This whole tour is an embarrassing tour story. (laughs)
Clint: I fell off the stage and whacked some kid in the head with the guitar. It was pretty embarrassing. I was terrified the guy was gonna have some kind of attack or something and fall down… a concussion or something… but the kid was like 'naw, I'm cool' 'are you sure' cause I fell… all my weight came behind me and the guitar… and smacked the kid in the head with the guitar. No good. Not to mention I looked really stupid because I was onstage one second and not the next second.

Steph: What would you do if you were walking down the street and you came across an explosive camel reading a book about your mother?
Mark:
Walk the other way.
Clint: I would ignite the camel.
Steph: But then he'd explode.
Clint: So?
Steph: Then you'd die too.
Clint: I wouldn't die. (To Dave) What would you do?
Dave: I'd wonder who spiked my drink.

Steph: If you were a piñata, what shape would you be, and what would you be filled with?
Clint:
I'd be fat. That's what shape I'd be. And I'd be filled with cheeseburgers.
Mark: I'd be shaped like… I don't know. I'd be shaped like a car… and be filled with nuts and bolts.
Clint: Gas.
(all laugh)
Clint (to Dave): What about you?
Dave: I don't even know… a big bag of money. I'd be shaped like money… and a big bag filled with money.0
Clint: I'd be shaped like a genius but then I'd be full of shit.
(all laugh)

Steph: Where's the best city to play in?
Clint:
It's tough. There are lot of good cities. I really enjoy playing Denver, Colorado… Phoenix, Arizona… um… Orlando, Florida. I love playing here in Providence. We always have fun here.
Mark: Chicago.
Clint: Chicago? We have fun all over the place. Last time we played in Pomona in California… it was awesome. And then there's stuff like… we played last night in New York City at CBGB's and the people who worked at the club were kinda dicks, and the place is a complete shithole, but we already knew because we played there before, but we still had fun. And the crowd was a lot of people who were music business people and were not kids there to have a good time…and it was just record people. The show was kinda weird at the time… but I had more fun last night then I've had in a long time. Hanging out with Home Grown and going out in New York City.

Steph: Who would you say is more welcoming, the east coast or the west coast?
Mark:
Right off the bat? The east coast.
Clint: The west coast is cool too because we can play places like Portland the kids are out of control. Like the Glasshouse show in Pomona was nuts.

Steph: Did you hear about the nightclub fire… what did you think of that?
Clint:
It sucks. It definitely affects a lot of people… and being in a band that tours, we're seeing the effects of it. Like, every club we play at now, the fire marshals are cracking down on every single club. So we were playing shows that were sold out at every show… so it's trying to get people on the guestlists and stuff and the club owners are like 'Look, I can only have this many people, if not, too bad.' And usually they'll bend the rules for us… 'Yeah, we got a few extras. We'll let em in for you guys' but now they're like "No, the fire marshal's crawling up my ass. I can't make any exceptions. Which is understandable, but it's all because of what happened. It basically made everybody more aware of how dangerous situations can be. But, that's when you're dealing with fire and stuff. We don't have fire and stuff. I think it's really sad that that happened and I think that those people should have really paid attention to what they were doing. Cause, I saw the footage of that… the pyros were way too big for that.
Mark: Yeah, somebody said if you weren't out in 30 seconds, you didn't make it out.

Steph: If you could have an ultimate tour and you could pick 3 other bands, who would they be, and why?
Mark:
For me, the Descendents would be a big one. Just because I love them and I've only seen them once.
Dave: Foo Fighters. Cause Dave Grohl's a legend.
Clint: I'd pick… I'd pick Alkaline Trio.

Steph: Who would you say influences you the most to play?
Mark:
There's a… huge amount of influences… everything from Slayer to Sinead O'Conner. Like all the way across the board. You name it. From hip hop, rap, motown, oldies, classic rock, crazy rock, metal, poppunk, punk,
Clint: On that end… then on the other end who influences us to play is the kids. Ya know. Live. To play live. We love play live. Just kids going nuts makes you wanna play. If they have a good time it makes you have a good time.

Steph: What was the first concert you ever went to?
Mark:
Phil Collins, 6th grade, Carousel tour in Denver, Colorado.
Dave: Cheap Trick.
Clint: Cheap Trick… that's a good one. I think mine… was… Clint Black. My first rock show that I went to was Face to Face. No wait, my first rock show was the Dixie Fat Cats (..inside joke. Don't ask. Haha.)

Steph: If you could be anyone's shoes… not IN their shoes… but BE their shoes… who's shoes would you be?
Dave:
Gwen Stefani's.
Clint: I was just gonna say that!
Mark: I'd be Fred Astaire's tap dancing shoes. I'm just kidding.
Dave: I'd be Gwen Stefani's house slippers.
Clint: I'd be Ronald McDonald's shoes.

Steph: Do you have any closing comments?
Mark:
Check out Riddlinkids.com and Riddlinkids.net and join our street team the Rk Army. You can do that online.
Clint: Get ready from the end of April to the beginning of June we're going on tour with Zebrahead. And we'll be going all over the place so keep an eye on our website for the tour dates and also we're gonna start working on our next record so keep your ears open…

Steph: Okay, thank you for the interview.
Mark:
No problem.
Clint: Thank you.
